The Great South Run Returns

PLUS: City Updates, Live Wrestling, Comedy Nights, New Restaurant & This Week in Pompey

Good morning, Pompey!

It’s Thursday!

Apologies for not sending out an issue last week, life has been really, really busy! Beginning of summer this year, I made the rather unfortunate decision to remove my hardworking, loyal dehumidifier from our kitchen to the shed because why not? It’s summer. I’ve now had to spend the better part of the past week sorting out damp, mildew (mould?) and all sorts. Lessons learned. Fingers crossed normal service resumes!

In today’s scoop:

  • Plan your journey - Great South Run

  • Love to Teach Week Begins

  • Shape the future of Public Transport in Portsmouth

  • Live wrestling, music, comedy, new store opening & lots to do

Right, let’s get into it!

In the news this week:

🏃🏼‍♂️The Great South Run returns to Portsmouth on 18–19 October, with up to 25,000 runners expected to take part. Events include the 5K, Junior & Mini runs on Saturday and the 10-mile race on Sunday. Expect travel changes, diversions, and limited parking. Several roads will be closed including Duisburg Way, Avenue de Caen and Clarence Esplanade. Use Park & Ride if visiting, and plan your journey well ahead if local. Bus routes updates can be found on the bus apps. Also check temporary parking signs to avoid getting your car towed. More info here and here.

👩🏼‍🏫Portsmouth kicked off the Love to Teach week with a flag-raising at the Civic Offices to celebrate teachers and open this year’s training applications. Two local teachers, Ashley Arnell from Penbidge School and Kay;ey Knight from Admiral Lord Nelson School shared inspiring journeys into the profession, from apprenticeships to PGCEs. If you’re interested, there’s a free webinar on 15 October at 5pm to explore routes into the classroom. For more info or to sign up, go here

🚆The City Council has launched a public consultation on its proposed Public Transport Strategy (a 10-year plan to improve its bus, rail, ferry, and taxi services). This is your chance to have a say on the future of public transport in Portsmouth. The consultation is open for six weeks from Monday 6 October to Sunday 16 November 2025. People will be able to take part online, at pop-up events across the city, or by requesting a paper copy of the survey. Take the survey here
