Good morning, Pompey. It’s Thursday!
After the summer holidays, we trimmed down the “Things to do with Kids” section to just the weekends, Friday through Sunday, since school was back in session. But with half-term coming up next week, this issue is packed with more kid-friendly activities than they’ll know what to do with, so we’ve stretched it out from this Friday to next.
And if you’re not in the kids club, don’t worry, we’ve still got plenty for you too, from live wrestling to comedy nights, music gigs, and the odd late-night pick that’s definitely not toddler-approved. See you inside!

In the news this week:
Remembrance Sunday will take place on Sunday, 9th November from 10:30am to 12:00pm in Guildhall Square, starting with a parade featuring veterans, military personnel, and youth groups. Then on Tuesday, 11th November at 10:30am, a quieter Armistice Day Service will be held at the Cenotaph, also in Guildhall Square. Everyone is welcome
Southern Water announced that there will be a lane closure on Eastern Road - Southbound, starting just after Tangier Road Junction, to complete a 2.5m repair project to futureproof sewer pipes. The lane closure is also expected to affect footpath and cycle traffic. Work started Tuesday 21st night, and will last seven weeks. If Eastern Road is part of your daily routine, this is a heads-up
Portsmouth FC’s Pop-Up shop is back at Gunwharf tomorrow, Friday 24th from 10:00am. It’s located behind Fossil Thief cafe, opposite the Old Customs House. Pompey players are also expected to be in-store on Friday for signings. It’s a shame it isn’t half term this Friday, would’ve been brilliant for kids to meet the players. Anyway
The Council’s Exceptional Hardship Scheme is now open for applications. It’s based on household income and other criteria, and is only available to those who haven’t received a payment from the scheme in the last six months. Applications close on 20th November. The separate Utility Payment Scheme, which helps low-income households with energy and water bills, is also open, but only until 27th October. If either could help lighten the load this winter, it’s worth checking if you’re eligible: apply here
On a brighter note, the iconic seaside shelters are back! The two historic shelters have been restored and are now back in place, newly repositioned along the ever-changing, fresh-look promenade opposite the Common.
