Good morning Pompey!
Last week, we tried a new format for the ‘things to do/things to do with kids’ section, in a bid to get things less wordy but quite honestly, it bombed! The feedback wasn’t great, and since Vox Populi, Vox Dei, back to the familiar we return! But thank you for letting us know! Your feedback is always welcome, and we’ll continue to iterate until we get it right.

Southsea Beach set to double in size!
An evening with Poet Laureate Simon Armitage at the New Theatre Royal

In this week’s news:
As part of the Coastal Management plans for Southsea, the beach area between the Pyramids and Coffee Cup in Eastney is going to double in size. Work is going to start in this winter, with more than a million tonnes of shingles expected to be deposited by dredger between October this year and March 2026. Join acclaimed author and Poet Laureate Simon Armitage for a special evening of readings, audience Q&A, and book signings at the New Theatre Royal on Monday, 14 July. Armitage, a graduate of the former Portsmouth Polytechnic, known for his poem The Theatre of the Sea (now permanently displayed along the Southsea promenade) will be reading from his new book, Dwell, as well as sharing some unpublished works. New Restaurant Opening
There’s a new spot to check out on the pier!
Seafood and Eat It, a brand-new seafood restaurant, is opening its doors at South Parade Pier on Monday, 14 July at 10:00am. More info here
Expect fresh catches, coastal views, and hopefully plenty of pun-based charm. Whether you going for their seafood pot or their bap & baguette, it might just become your new local favourite.
Swing by for the opening, maybe stay for lunch (and send us some pictures!)
