Fireworks at Southsea Common!
PLUS: Roadworks on Northern Parade, Call to Artists, Live Music & This Week in Pompey
Good morning afternoon, Pompey. It’s Thursday!
I’m currently away at Ashburnham Place, Battle this week for a retreat. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to in the UK (peaceful, green and really quiet) but it’s quite remote, so the reception is a bit poorly. Not to worry though, we’ve still been able to curate some of the best things happening this week, as I still wanted to push something out for the week. This coming a bit later than usual but it’s still good, I promise!
In today’s scoop:
- Grow your business at Future Portsmouth
- Help bring Portsmouth’s Lions to Life!
- Work begins on the A3 Northern Parade
- RTPI President visits and commends Portsmouth
- Fight night, live music, comedy & lots to do
Right, let’s get into it!
In the news this week:

Helen Fadipe, President of the Royal Town Planning Institute, visited Portsmouth last week to see how the city turned its planning performance around. Themed “from special measures to special awards”. The visit spotlighted the Southsea Coastal Scheme, the UK’s largest local authority-led coastal defence project, which will protect more than 10,000 homes and 700 businesses from flooding. She praised Portsmouth as a “powerful example of how planning can transform places and protect communities,” and honestly, it’s hard not to agree, the whole thing from Eastney to Old Portsmouth is coming together, can’t wait for when the whole project is complete
Portsmouth businesses, mark your calendars! Future Portsmouth is coming on 28 November, and it’s shaping up to be a must-attend day for local entrepreneurs and businesses. Hosted by Portsmouth City Council and the University of Portsmouth, the event will be held at the New Theatre Royal with workshops on everything from social media and employment law to AI and local talent development. With networking sessions, expert panels, and free business support on offer, the event is meant to help local grow stronger. If you run a business, and fancy it do come around, would love to meet local business subscribed to the Scoop. Check here more info

Portsmouth is about to get a lot more colourful! The Pride of Portsmouth lion art trail has officially opened applications for artists! As part of the city’s Portsmouth100 celebrations, this public art project will fill our streets, parks, and open spaces with stunning lion sculptures in summer 2026, each designed by talented local artists. From the vibrant “Leonardo Da Pompey” by Hotwalls artist, Louise Braithwaite (currently on show at Southsea Library) to whatever wild ideas come next, this trail promises to capture the pride, creativity, and spirit of our city. So if you’re a local artist or you know someone who is. This is there chance to be forever a part of Pompey! Go here

Work started on Monday 27th to bring improvements to the A3 Northern Parade and London Road junction. The council kicked off the improvement works as part of the city’s £52 million Bus Service Improvement Plan, with upgrades to bus lanes, resurfaced roads and cycle paths, better drainage, clearer signs, and even new green spaces. The works will happen in two phases to keep disruption low, and though there’ll be some lane closures and diversions, it’s all part of building a transport network that actually works for everyone. First phase should last around 7 weeks while the second phase would kick off early next year. More here

Portsmouth’s annual fireworks display will be on the Southsea Common on 4 November, it’s happening a day early this year to avoid the football traffic (Wrexham at Fratton Park). The City Council is calling for you to plan your trip in advance. For more info, go here
